Ocupress Opht
Generic Name: CARTEOLOL SOLUTION - OPHTHALMIC
Pronounced: (kar-TEE-oh-lol, off-THAL-mick)
Ocupress Opht Uses
Carteolol is used alone or with other medications to treat high
pressure inside the eye (e.g., due to open-angle glaucoma).
Lowering high pressure in the eye can help prevent eye damage and
vision loss. Carteolol is a beta blocker. It is thought to work by
reducing the amount of fluid made in the eye.
How To Use Ocupress Opht
Use this medication in the affected eye(s), usually 1 drop twice
daily or as directed by your doctor. Exactly follow your
doctorâs directions on how often to use this drug.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to
therapy.
This product contains a preservative (benzalkonium chloride)
which can be absorbed by contact lenses. Therefore, contact lenses
should be removed before using this medication. They may be
re-inserted 15 minutes after using carteolol.
Before using, check this product visually for brown
discoloration, cloudiness, or particles. If any of these is
present, do not use the eye drops.
To apply eye drops, wash your hands first. To avoid
contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your
eye or any other surface. Shake the bottle well before use.
Tilt your head back, look upward, and gently pull down the lower
eyelid to make a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over the eye and
place one drop in the pouch. Look downward and gently close your
eyes for 1-2 minutes. Place one finger at the corner of the eye
near the nose and apply gentle pressure to prevent the medication
from draining out. Try not to blink and do not rub the eye. This
will prevent the medication from draining away from the eye. Repeat
these steps for your other eye if directed by your doctor.
Do not rinse the dropper. Replace the dropper cap after each
use.
If you are using another kind of eye medication (e.g., drops or
ointments), wait at least 10 minutes before applying other
medications. Use the eye drops before eye ointments to allow the
eye drops to enter the eye.
Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit
from it. To help you remember, use it at the same times each day.
It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel
well. Most people with high pressure in the eye do not feel
sick.
