Generic Name: LOMEFLOXACIN - ORAL
Pronounced: (low-meh-FLOX-uh-sin)

Lomefloxacin Oral Uses

This medication is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It may also be used before certain urological procedures to prevent bladder/kidney infections. Lomefloxacin belongs to a class of drugs known as quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

How To Use Lomefloxacin Oral

Take this medication by mouth, with or without food, usually once a day or as directed by your doctor. Take lomefloxacin in the evening to help reduce the risk of a sun-sensitivity reaction. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

The dosage and duration of therapy is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.

Take this medication at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after taking any products containing magnesium or aluminum. Some examples include quinapril, didanosine (chewable/buffered tablets, pediatric powder for oral solution), vitamins/minerals, and antacids. Follow the same instructions if you also take bismuth subsalicylate, sucralfate, iron, and zinc. These products bind with lomefloxacin and may prevent its full absorption.

Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this drug at evenly spaced intervals (at the same time every day).

If you are taking this medication to treat an infection, continue to take it until the full-prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

If you are taking this medication for the prevention of certain bacterial infections, take it exactly as directed by your doctor.
