Lomefloxacin Oral Side Effects

Headache, nausea, dizziness, and diarrhea may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:

  • numbness/tingling/weakness of arms/legs
  • uncontrolled movements (e.g., tremor, twitching)
  • vision changes

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur:

  • easy bruising/bleeding
  • fast/slow/irregular heartbeats
  • fainting
  • mental/mood changes (including depression, rare thoughts of suicide)
  • new signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat)
  • seizures
  • persistent nausea/vomiting
  • yellowing of eyes or skin
  • change in the amount of urine

Lomefloxacin may cause moderate to severe sun-sensitivity reactions. These reactions may occur up to several weeks after you finish therapy. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Avoid exposure to direct/indirect sunlight and sunlamps/tanning booths while taking this medication and for several days after finishing it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice burning, redness, or blistering of the skin while on this medication. If you have a sun-sensitivity reaction, avoid re-exposure to sunlight and sunlamps/tanning booths until you have completely recovered from the reaction. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

This medication may rarely cause tendon damage (e.g., tendon rupture). Stop exercising, rest, and seek immediate medical attention if you develop joint/muscle/tendon pain or swelling.

This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (pseudomembranous colitis) due to resistant bacteria. This condition may occur weeks after treatment has stopped. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medications if you have the following symptoms because these products may make them worse. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop:

  • persistent diarrhea
  • abdominal or stomach pain/cramping
  • blood/mucus in your stool
