Hydralazine W/Hctz Oral Warning
This product contains two medications and generally should not be used when treating high blood pressure (hypertension) for the first time. Each of the medications in this product should first be given separately so that the best dose of each drug can be determined. This combination product should only be used if your doctor determines that the doses of each drug in this product are right for your condition. Your medications may need to be continually adjusted by your doctor depending on your condition.
Hydralazine W/Hctz Oral Side Effects
Dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, temporary blurred vision, loss of appetite, flushing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. You may also be more sensitive to sunburn (see Precautions section).
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
The hydrochlorothiazide in this product may cause too much body water and salts to be lost (dehydration). Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious symptoms of dehydration:
- very dry mouth
- thirst
- muscle cramps
- weakness
- fast heartbeat
- nausea
- vomiting
- severe dizziness
- confusion
- unusual decrease in the amount of urine
- fainting
- seizures
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:
- shortness of breath
- uncontrolled movements (e.g., tremor)
- mental/mood changes (e.g., depression, anxiety)
- trouble urinating
- unusual tiredness
- vision changes (e.g., yellow vision)
- severe constipation
- severe stomach/abdominal pain
- increased thirst
- increased urination
This medication may infrequently cause nerve problems. Notify your doctor promptly if you experience numbness or tingling. Your doctor may recommend a vitamin B6 supplement (pyridoxine).
