Bactrim Iv IV Uses
This medication is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It is also used to treat a certain type of pneumonia (pneumocystis pneumonia) in patients with a weakened immune system. This medication is a combination of 2 antibiotics, sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria and the pneumocystis fungus.
This medication treats only certain types of infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., flu). Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
How To Use Bactrim Iv IV
This medication is given by injection into a vein as directed by your doctor. It must not be injected into a muscle. This medication must be properly mixed with the correct IV fluids (dextrose 5 percent solution) and given by slow infusion over 60-90 minutes.
Before using, check this product visually for particles, cloudiness, and discoloration. If any of these are present, do not use the liquid.
Drink plenty of fluids during treatment with this medication unless your doctor advises you otherwise. This will help prevent unlikely side effects, such as crystals appearing in the urine and kidney stones. The dosage is based on your medical condition, weight, and response to therapy.
Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, give this drug at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night.
Continue to use this medication for the full time prescribed, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection.
Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
