Pronounced: (LIM-foe-site, AN-ti THIGH-mow-site)
Lymphocyte,Anti-Thymo Imm Glob IV Uses
Lymphocyte immune globulin is used with other medications
to prevent or treat rejection of a kidney transplant. It is also used to treat
a certain blood disorder (aplastic anemia) in patients who cannot have a bone
marrow transplant.
This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as
immunosuppressants. It works by weakening your immune system. For kidney
transplants, this effect helps your body to accept the new kidney as if it were
your own. For aplastic anemia, this effect helps to slow or stop the damage to
the bone marrow caused by the immune system so that the bone marrow can
continue to produce red blood cells, white blood cells, and
platelets.
