Cancidas IV

Generic Name: CASPOFUNGIN - INJECTION
Pronounced: (kass-poe-FUN-gin)

Cancidas IV Uses

Caspofungin is used to treat a variety of serious fungal infections. It is often used in patients who cannot use or do not respond to other antifungal medications (e.g., amphotericin B, itraconazole). Caspofungin belongs to a class of drugs known as echinocandins. It works by stopping the growth of fungus.

How To Use Cancidas IV

Follow all directions for proper mixing with the correct IV fluids. Do not shake the container. Before using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid. Caspofungin should not be mixed with or given at the same time as other IV medications. Do not mix caspofungin with solutions that contain dextrose (e.g., D5W). If you have questions about the use of this medication, consult your pharmacist.

This medication is given by infusion into a vein (IV) by a health care professional. It is given slowly over 1 hour, usually once a day or as directed by your doctor. The dose and length of treatment depend on your condition and response to treatment. Continue using this medication for the full time prescribed. Stopping this medication too soon may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a return of your infection.

Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
