Vidarabine Opht

In Depth

Generic Name: VIDARABINE - OPHTHALMIC OINTMENT
Pronounced: (vye-DARE-uh-bean, off-THAL-mick)

Vidarabine Opht Uses

This medication is used to treat certain eye infections.

How To Use Vidarabine Opht

For best effects, this medication must be used as directed. It is usually applied 5 times a day at 3 hour intervals. Continue using it for the full time prescribed. Do not stop taking this without your doctor's approval. Stopping this medication too soon may not clear the infection and could possibly result in a reinfection.

Apply eye ointment to the affected eye(s) as follows: Wash hands first. To avoid contamination, be careful not to touch the tube tip or let it touch your eye. Rolling the ointment tube in your hands for a minute will make the ointment flow easier. Tilt your head back, gaze upward and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Place 1/4 to 1/2 inch (0.6 to 1.3 centimeters) of ointment into the pouch by squeezing the tube gently. Close the eye and roll the eyeball in all directions to spread the medication. Try not to blink and do not rub the eye. Wipe the tip of the ointment tube with a tissue to remove excess medication before capping it.

If you are using an eye drop in addition to this medication, apply the eye drops first and wait at least ten minutes before applying this eye ointment. If you are using another type of eye ointment, wait at least ten minutes after using this medication before applying it.
