Generic Name: ALPROSTADIL - INJECTION
Pronounced: (al-PROSS-tuh-dill)

Alprostadil Inj Warning

Breathing problems (apnea) have occurred in infants with heart defects that were treated with alprostadil. Apnea is most often seen in infants who weigh less than 5 lbs (2kg). Apnea usually appears during the first hour that the drug is being given. Therefore, infants should be closely monitored in an appropriate setting during treatment with this drug.

Alprostadil Inj Side Effects

Fever, irritability, stiffness, jitteriness, flushing, diarrhea, easy bruising or bleeding may occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform the doctor.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

The patient will be watched closely since seizures, a rapid or slow heart rate and breathing trouble can occur while using this medication.

If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Alprostadil Inj Precautions

This medication is for use in infants only.

Tell the doctor of:

  • bleeding tendencies
  • breathing problems
  • any allergies

Alprostadil Inj Drug Interactions

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.

Tell the doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication taken.
