Irinotecan IV Interactions
Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.
This drug should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur:
- atazanavir
Avoid taking St. John's wort within 2 weeks before or during treatment with this medication, and avoid taking ketoconazole within 1 week before or during treatment with this medication.
If you are currently using any of these medications listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting irinotecan.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of:
- drugs affecting liver enzymes that remove irinotecan from your body (such as rifamycins including rifabutin, certain anti-seizure medicines including carbamazepine/phenytoin/phenobarbital)
- laxatives
- "water pills"/diuretics (e.g., furosemide)
Avoid eating foods or taking products containing tumeric (curcumin) while being treated with irinotecan. It may decrease this medication's effects. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.
