Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.

This drug should not be used with the following medication because very serious interactions may occur:

• sodium oxybate

If you are currently using the medication listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting chloral hydrate.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of:

• furosemide given into a vein
• warfarin

Some other drowsiness-causing medications may cause serious (possibly fatal) slowed breathing when taken with chloral hydrate. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you also take other drugs that cause drowsiness such as:

• other medicine for sleep or anxiety (e.g., alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem)
• muscle relaxants (e.g., carisoprodol)
• narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine)
• psychiatric medicines (e.g., chlorpromazine, risperidone, amitriptyline, trazodone)

Many drugs besides chloral hydrate may affect the heart rhythm (QT prolongation), including amiodarone, dofetilide, pimozide, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol, macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), among others. Therefore, before using chloral hydrate, report all medications you are currently using to your doctor or pharmacist.

If you are currently using any of these medications listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting chloral hydrate.
