Dobutamine IV Interactions

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Avoid taking MAO inhibitors (furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within 2 weeks before or during treatment with this medication. In some cases a serious (possibly fatal) drug interaction may occur.

If you are currently using any of these medications listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting dobutamine.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of:

  • beta blockers (e.g., metoprolol, propranolol)
  • certain inhaled anesthetics (e.g., halothane, isoflurane)
  • entacapone
  • guanethidine
  • methyldopa
  • tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, doxepin)


Do not mix dobutamine in alkaline solutions such as sodium bicarbonate or in solutions containing both sodium bisulfite and ethanol, or with other drugs in the same solution.
