Noctec Oral Side Effects

Stomach irritation, nausea, vomiting, bad taste in the mouth, and diarrhea may occur. Unwanted sleepiness and trouble waking up in the morning may occur. Less common side effects may include gas, persistent tiredness, headache, and nightmares. Stomach irritation can be reduced by taking chloral hydrate with a full glass of water. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:

  • mental/mood changes (e.g., confusion, disorientation, thinking that others wish to harm you)
  • staggering walk
  • lightheadedness

Seek immediate medical attention if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur:

  • fainting
  • fast/irregular heartbeat

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:

  • rash
  • itching
  • swelling
  • severe dizziness
