Mucomyst-20 Inhl Uses
When inhaled by mouth, this medication is used to help treat certain lung diseases (e.g., bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia). It is a mucolytic that works by making phlegm in the lungs more liquid. This effect helps you cough up the phlegm so that your breathing becomes easier.
When swallowed by mouth, acetylcysteine is used as an antidote for acetaminophen overdose to prevent life-threatening liver damage.
How To Use Mucomyst-20 Inhl
Inhale or swallow this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor.
If your doctor instructs you to use special breathing equipment (a nebulizer), avoid contact between the medicine and certain materials that react with it (e.g., iron, copper, rubber). Any part of the equipment that may come in contact with the drug should be made of glass, plastic, or a metal that does not react with the drug (e.g., regular/anodized aluminum, chromed metal, tantalum, sterling silver, stainless steel). Do not use with a heated nebulizer. Clean the equipment immediately after use.
A health care professional will show the proper way to use the nebulizer. Make sure you understand how to use and clean the nebulizer and how to avoid contaminating the solution. If you have any questions, ask your health care professional.
If you are using a face mask with the equipment, wash your face with water afterwards to remove any stickiness.
Most inhaled medications should not be mixed together in the nebulizer. If you are using more than 1 inhaled medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them together.
To decrease nausea and vomiting when swallowing this medication by mouth, the solution may be mixed with other liquids. Consult your pharmacist for instructions on how to mix this medication properly. Drink the mixture within 1 hour of mixing.
Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Dosage may also be based on weight.
Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take/use it at the same times each day.
Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.
