Librax (with Methscopolamine) Oral Uses

This combination medication is used with other medications to treat stomach/intestinal ulcers. It is also used alone or with other medications to treat bowel problems (e.g., irritable bowel syndrome, enterocolitis). This combination medication can decrease anxiety, stress, stomach/abdominal pain, cramping, and diarrhea.

Chlordiazepoxide belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines which act on the brain to produce a calming effect and to relax muscles. It works by increasing the effects of a certain natural substance in the body (GABA). Methscopolamine is known as an anticholinergic medication that slows down the movements of the gut and dries up some fluids in the body.

How To Use Librax (with Methscopolamine) Oral

Take this medication by mouth, usually 2 to 4 times a day before meals and at bedtime or as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.

Take this medication 2-3 hours before or after taking any antacids containing magnesium, aluminum, or calcium. These products may bind with chlordiazepoxide, preventing its full absorption.

This medication may cause dependence, especially if it has been used regularly for an extended time (more than a few weeks) or if it has been used in high doses. In such cases, if you suddenly stop this drug, withdrawal reactions may occur. Such reactions can include trouble sleeping, anxiety, muscle twitching, and seizures. Report any such reactions to your doctor immediately. When stopping extended, regular treatment with this drug, gradually reducing the dosage as directed will help prevent withdrawal reactions. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Use this medication exactly as prescribed. Though it is very unlikely to occur, this medication can also result in abnormal drug-seeking behavior (addiction/habit forming). Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently or use it for a longer time than prescribed. Properly stop the medication when so directed. This will lessen the chances of becoming addicted.
