If you have diabetes, this medication may mask the fast/pounding heartbeat you would usually feel when your blood sugar falls too low (hypoglycemia). Other symptoms of low blood sugar such as dizziness or sweating are unaffected by this drug.
Although this effect is unlikely, bisoprolol may also cause or worsen symptoms of asthma (e.g., feeling of tightness in the chest, trouble breathing, wheezing, cough). Tell your doctor immediately if any of these symptoms occur.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur:
- dark urine
- yellowing of the eyes/skin
- severe abdominal pain
- easy bruising/bleeding
- signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat)
- stomach pain
- black stools
- rectal bleeding
- painful erections (Peyronie's disease)
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include:
- rash
- itching
- swelling
- severe dizziness
- trouble breathing
