Nujol Oral
Generic Name: MINERAL OIL LAXATIVE - ORALNujol Oral Side Effects
Side effects of mineral oil are not common with proper usage. Anal leakage of mineral oil may occur, especially with higher doses. Leakage may cause soiling of skin/clothing or anal irritation/itching. It may also increase the risk of infection and slow healing of anal sores. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Stop this medication and tell your doctor immediately if you experience the following symptoms since these may be signs of a more serious problem:
- rectal bleeding
- bloody stools
- sweating
- fast heartbeat
- weakness
- dizziness
- fainting
Rarely, and only with persistent use, mineral oil may cause absorption problems with certain vitamins from the diet (vitamins A, E, D, and K). A lack of these vitamins can cause other medical problems. Tell your doctor immediately if you notice easy bruising/bleeding. This effect can be decreased by taking mineral oil on an empty stomach 2 to 3 hours after eating and by limiting the use of the drug to 7 days in a row.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:
- rash
- itching
- swelling
- severe dizziness
- trouble breathing
This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
