Zinx Cough Kit Oral

Generic Name: GUAIFENESIN/CARBETAPENTANE/PHENYLEPHRINE SOLN W/ ZINC KIT - ORAL
Pronounced: (gwye-FEN-e-sin/car-bait-TA-pen-tane/fen-ill-EFF-rin/zink)

Zinx Cough Kit Oral Uses

This combination product is used to temporarily treat dry cough and stuffy nose symptoms caused by the common cold, flu, or other breathing illnesses (e.g., bronchitis). The solution contains guaifenesin, carbetapentane, and phenylephrine. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that works by making the mucus in the lungs less thick. This helps to loosen the mucus so that it is easier to cough up. Carbetapentane is a cough suppressant that works by acting on a part of the brain (cough center) to reduce the urge to cough. Phenylephrine is a decongestant that works by reducing blood flow to the nose/sinuses, allowing the nasal passages to open up. The lozenges contain zinc. Zinc has been used to decrease the time and severity of symptoms of the common cold (e.g., sore throat, cough, stuffy nose). It works by stopping the growth of the virus that causes the common cold (rhinovirus).

The solution is usually not used for ongoing coughs from smoking, asthma, other long-term breathing problems (e.g., emphysema), or coughs with a lot of mucus, unless directed by your doctor.

The solution should not be used in newborns. Do not use the solution in children younger than 2 years unless specifically directed by the doctor. To decrease the risk for serious side effects, carefully follow all of the doctor's dosage directions. Do not give other cough or cold medication that might contain the same or similar ingredients (see also Drug Interactions section). Ask your doctor or pharmacist about other ways to relieve cough and cold symptoms (e.g., saline nose drops/spray, using a humidifier or infant nasal suction bulb).

The lozenges are not recommended for children younger than 6 years.

How To Use Zinx Cough Kit Oral

Measure the solution with a dose-measuring spoon or device to make sure you get the correct dose. Do not use a household spoon. Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually every 4 to 6 hours or as directed by your doctor.

For best results, take the solution with a full glass of water. Drink plenty of fluids while you are using the solution unless otherwise directed by your doctor. The fluid will help loosen the mucus in your lungs.
