Calahist Top Side Effects

Mild stinging, redness, swelling, or dry/flaky skin may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:

  • rash
  • itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
  • severe dizziness
  • trouble breathing

Calahist Top Precautions

Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to diphenhydramine; or to calamine; or to other ingredients that may be in your brand (e.g., camphor, menthol), or if you have any other allergies.

If you have any of the following health problems, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this product:

  • chickenpox
  • measles


Though very unlikely, it is possible this medication will be absorbed into your blood. Children using this drug for an extended time over large areas of the skin (especially areas with broken skin) may be at higher risk, especially if they also are using other diphenhydramine products taken by mouth or applied to the skin. Stop using this product and tell your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

  • enlarged pupils
  • face flushing
  • mental/mood changes
  • difficulty walking
  • difficulty urinating


During pregnancy, this product should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

This medication may pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
