Wal-Tussin Cough & Cold Oral
Generic Name: DEXTROMETHORPHAN W/DECONGESTANT - ORAL
Wal-Tussin Cough & Cold Oral Uses
This combination product is used to temporarily treat cough and
stuffy nose symptoms caused by the common cold, flu, or other
breathing illnesses (e.g., sinusitis, bronchitis). Dextromethorphan
is a cough suppressant. It affects a certain part of the brain
(cough center) to help you stop coughing. This product also
contains a decongestant, which helps relieve stuffy nose
symptoms.
Do not use this medication in children younger than 2 years
unless specifically directed by the doctor. To decrease the risk
for serious side effects, carefully follow all of the doctor's
dosage directions. Do not give other cough and cold medication that
might contain the same or similar ingredients (see also Drug
Interactions section). Ask your doctor or pharmacist about other
ways to relieve cough and cold symptoms (e.g., saline nose
drops/spray, using a humidifier or infant nasal suction bulb).
How To Use Wal-Tussin Cough & Cold Oral
Read and follow all directions on the product package, or use as
directed by your doctor. If you are uncertain about any of the
information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Take the tablet, capsule, or liquid form by mouth with or
without food. Follow the directions for dosing on the label, or
take as directed by your doctor. If you are using the liquid form,
use a medication measuring device to carefully measure the
prescribed dose. Do not use a household spoon. This medication may
be taken with food or milk if stomach upset occurs.
Chewable forms of this product should be chewed thoroughly
before swallowing.
If you are using a product made to dissolve in the mouth (e.g.,
strips), dry your hands before handling the medication. Place each
dose on the tongue and allow to dissolve completely, then swallow
it with saliva or with water.
Your dosage is based on your age, medical condition, and
response to therapy.
Improper use of this medication (abuse) may result in serious
harm (e.g., brain damage, seizure, death). Do not increase your
dose, take it more frequently, or use it for a longer time than
directed.
Inform your doctor if your condition persists for more than 1
week, if it worsens, or if it occurs with a fever, rash, or
persistent headache. These may be symptoms of a serious medical
problem and should be checked by a doctor.
