NuLYTELY with Flavor Packs Oral Uses
This medication is used to clean out the intestines before a colonoscopy. Electrolyte with polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a laxative that works by drawing large amounts of water into the colon, causing you to have watery bowel movements. This cleans out the intestines so that your doctor can clearly view them during your colonoscopy.
How To Use NuLYTELY with Flavor Packs Oral
This medication is taken by mouth or through a nose-to-stomach tube (nasogastric tube) without food. Add enough water to the powder in the provided container to fill to the 4-liter mark, and mix thoroughly. If this product comes with flavor packets, add the flavor packet of your choice to the container along with the water and medication powder. Do not use any flavorings other than those that may come with this product. If you received the powder in packets/sachets, mix this product in the correct amount of water in a container big enough to hold the mixture as directed on the package. After mixing, place the container in the refrigerator to cool. Cooling the mixture will make it taste less salty. Quickly drink one 8-ounce glass (240 milliliters) of the mixture every 10 minutes until you finish the entire container (4 liters), or take as directed by your doctor. It is better to drink the mixture quickly than to sip it slowly. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about how to mix or take this product.
Dosage is based on your age.
Watery bowel movements usually begin 1 hour after you start to drink the mixture. Since the bowel movements can be very large/watery, drink more clear liquids so that you do not lose too much body water (become dehydrated). Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Do not take any other medications by mouth within 1 hour of starting to drink the mixture because your body may not absorb the other medications. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about rescheduling doses of other medications.
Follow any special dietary restrictions or instructions given by your doctor. A period of not eating is usually recommended, usually starting 3-4 hours before taking this medication and lasting until after the colonoscopy. Only clear liquids are allowed during this time. Eating solid food is usually allowed after the colonoscopy.
