CVS Vitamin B12 Oral

Generic Name: CYANOCOBALAMIN - ORAL
Pronounced: (SYE-an-oh-koe-BAL-a-min)

CVS Vitamin B12 Oral Uses

Cyanocobalamin is a man-made form of vitamin B12 used to treat low body levels (deficiency) of this vitamin. B12 is needed to maintain the health of nerves, skin, blood cells, and the lining of the stomach/intestines. Most people who eat a normal diet do not need extra vitamin B12.

B12 deficiency may occur in certain health conditions (such as poor nutrition, alcoholism, pregnancy, old age, stomach/intestinal problems, HIV infection, cancer, pernicious anemia). Serious vitamin B12 deficiency may result in low numbers of red blood cells (anemia), stomach/intestine problems, and permanent nerve damage.

Cyanocobalamin taken by mouth should only be used if your body can properly absorb it. You should use other cyanocobalamin products that are injected or inhaled in the nose if you have pernicious anemia, missing/damaged small intestine, damaged stomach lining, or food absorption problems.

How To Use CVS Vitamin B12 Oral

If you are taking the over-the-counter product to self-treat, read all directions on the product package before taking this medication. If you have any questions, consult your pharmacist. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, take it as directed.

Take this vitamin by mouth, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. There are many brands and forms of this product available, and each may contain different amounts of cyanocobalamin. Carefully read and follow the dosing instructions for your product. Do not take more than recommended.

Some forms of cyanocobalamin may be swallowed whole or dissolved under the tongue. Follow the package directions. If you are taking the long-acting form of this medication, swallow the medication whole. Do not crush or chew the medication. Doing so can destroy the long action of the drug and may increase side effects.

Use this vitamin regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.

Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. If you think you may have a serious medical problem, seek immediate medical attention.
