Generic Name: POTASSIUM IODIDE/EPHEDRINE SYRUP - ORAL
Pronounced: (poh-TASS-ee-um EYE-oh-dyed/eff-ED-rin)

KIE Oral Side Effects

Nervousness, dizziness, headache, trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, increased sweating, or worsening acne may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:

  • mental/mood changes (e.g., confusion, anxiety, hallucinations)
  • fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat
  • unexplained weight loss
  • metallic taste
  • stomach/abdominal pain
  • persistent nausea/vomiting
  • black/bloody stools
  • vomit that looks like coffee grounds
  • unusual tiredness
  • numbness/tingling/pain/weakness in hands/feet
  • shaking (tremor)
  • fever
  • burning feeling in mouth/throat
  • swelling/tenderness in the neck/throat
  • sore teeth/gums
  • increased saliva
  • irritated eyes
  • swollen eyelids
  • difficulty urinating


Seek immediate medical attention if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur:

  • chest pain
  • weakness on one side of the body
  • confusion
  • vision changes
  • slurred speech


A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:

  • rash
  • itching
  • swelling
  • severe dizziness
  • trouble breathing
