Generic Name: ENTACAPONE - ORAL

Entacapone Oral Side Effects

Nausea/vomiting, increased abnormal/uncontrolled/fast movements, dizziness upon standing, fainting, abnormal sweating, drowsiness, tiredness, dry mouth, constipation, gas, and abdominal pain may occur. Diarrhea may occur 4-12 weeks after you start the medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication may develop serious side effects, but with frequent visits to your doctor, this risk can be minimized.

Your urine may turn brownish-orange. This effect is harmless.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:

  • mental/mood changes (e.g., confusion, hallucinations)
  • fever
  • muscle stiffness


Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur:

  • easy bleeding/bruising
  • sore/painful muscles
  • muscle weakness
  • trouble breathing
  • pain with breathing


A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:

  • rash
  • itching
  • swelling
  • severe dizziness
  • trouble breathing
