Chest-Sinus Congestion Relief Oral
Generic Name: GUAIFENESIN/PHENYLEPHRINE - ORAL
Pronounced: (gweye-FEN-eh-sin/fen-ill-EFF-rin)
Chest-Sinus Congestion Relief Oral Uses
This combination medication is used to treat symptoms (coughing,
runny/stuffy nose, congestion) caused by the common cold,
allergies, asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, and other breathing
illnesses.
This product is usually not used for ongoing cough from smoking
or long-term breathing problems (e.g., chronic bronchitis,
emphysema) unless directed by your doctor.
Guaifenesin belongs to a class of drugs known as expectorants.
It works by thinning and loosening mucus in the airways, clearing
congestion, and making breathing easier.
Phenylephrine belongs to a class of drugs known as
decongestants. It causes a narrowing of blood vessels in the nose
and sinuses to reduce nasal congestion (stuffy nose).
Do not use this medication in children younger than 2 years
unless specifically directed by the doctor. To decrease the risk
for serious side effects, carefully follow all of the doctor's
dosage directions. Do not give other cough and cold medication that
might contain the same or similar ingredients (see also Drug
Interactions section). Ask your doctor or pharmacist about other
ways to relieve cough and cold symptoms (e.g., saline nose
drops/spray, using a humidifier or infant nasal suction bulb).
