Famotidine IV Side Effects
Headache, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, and pain/redness at the injection site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur:
- easy bruising/bleeding
- fast/slow/irregular heartbeat
- signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat, cough)
- mental/mood changes (e.g., restlessness, confusion, depression)
- hearing/seeing things that are not there (hallucinations)
- persistent nausea/vomiting
- seizure
- severe stomach/abdominal pain
- dark urine
- yellowing skin/eyes
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include:
- rash
- itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
- severe dizziness
- trouble breathing

Famotidine IV Precautions
Before using famotidine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other acid reducers (e.g., cimetidine, ranitidine); or if you have any other allergies.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of:
- immune system problems
- kidney problems
- liver problems
- lung problems (e.g., asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD)
- other stomach problems (e.g., tumors)
