Stadol Inj Uses
This medication is used to treat moderate to severe pain. It is also used with other types of medication before and during surgery or other procedures. Butorphanol is a narcotic pain reliever similar to morphine. It acts on certain centers in the brain to give you pain relief.
Butorphanol can also block the effects of narcotics and can cause withdrawal symptoms in people dependent on narcotics. If possible, people who have recently used narcotics in high doses or for a long time should not use butorphanol. (See also Side Effects section.)
How To Use Stadol Inj
Inject this medication into a vein or muscle as directed by your doctor. Ask your pharmacist before mixing with other medications in the same injection. If you have any questions about the use of this medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Before using this product, check it visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid. Clean the injection site properly before use. If this medication is given into a muscle, it is important to change the location of the injection site to avoid developing problem areas under the skin.
This medication is usually used every 3-4 hours as needed for pain, or as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Pain medications work best if they are used as the first signs of pain occur. If you wait until the pain has worsened, the medication may not work as well.
If nausea occurs, consult your doctor or pharmacist for ways to decrease it (e.g., antihistamines, lying down with as little head movement as possible).
Some forms of butorphanol injection (single-dose ampules, vials, syringes) do not contain a preservative and should be used only once. If you are using a product designed for single use, discard any unused liquid and do not save for later use.
This medication may cause dependence, especially if it has been used regularly for a long time or if it has been used in high doses. In such cases, if you suddenly stop this drug, withdrawal reactions may occur. Such reactions can include restlessness, runny nose, watering eyes, trouble sleeping, severe abdominal/muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, rapid breathing, and fast heartbeat. Report any such reactions to your doctor immediately. When stopping long-term, regular treatment with this drug, gradually reducing the dosage as directed will help prevent withdrawal reactions.
