If you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to Persantine or any of its ingredients, you should not use this medication. Make sure your doctor is aware of any drug reactions you have experienced.

Persantine has been known to cause liver problems, including liver failure. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following signs of liver trouble: nausea, fatigue, drowsiness, itching, yellowish skin, flu-like symptoms, and pain in the upper right abdomen.
Persantine should be used with caution if you have any heart problems, including angina or recent heart attack. Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any unusual chest pain.
Tell the doctor that you are taking Persantine if you have a medical emergency, and before you have surgery or dental treatment.
Possible food and drug interactions when taking Persantine
Return to topIf Persantine is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Persantine with the following:
- Alzheimer's drugs
- Aspirin
- Blood thinners
- Heart medications
- Indomethacin
- Ticlopidine
- Valproic acid
Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
Return to topThe effects of Persantine during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. This drug appears in breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment with this medication is finished.
Recommended dosage for Persantine

The usual recommended dose is 75 milligrams to 100 milligrams, 4 times a day.
CHILDREN
The safety and effectiveness of this medication have not been established in children under 12 years of age.
Overdosage
